Ghaziabad: On a surprise inspection at MMG Hospital, chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Bhavtosh Shankdhar performed cataract surgery on a patient to help cut the queue at the ophthalmology clinic of the government facility on Tuesday. He also examined 20 patients to share the workload of the doctors.
According to the hospital administration, the CMO was inspecting the facilities at the hospital and noted a long queue of patients waiting for consultation and surgeries. He prepared himself for the OT and performed the surgery.
“It is essential for us to continue with our practice and perform surgeries. It also helps me get feedback directly from the patients and stay updated with my skills as a doctor,” said Dr Shankdhar.
The MMG hospital has a daily OPD of over 1,000 patients and more than 500 eye surgeries are performed among other surgeries every month. The health department in Ghaziabad will also start eye surgery services at the district combined hospital in Loni soon.
